Academic Board Elections

Staff wishing to stand for election for the Academic Board should notify Jessica Dodd, Officer to Academic Board, via email by 25 March 2019 stating which category they would like to be considered for and if applicable including a statement providing a rationale on how they would represent the category selected.

Academic Board elections will be held between Monday 15 April and Friday 3 May 2019. The term of office for elected members is 3 years.  The first meeting that successful candidates will be expected to attend is on Thursday 27 June at 2pm.

Academic Board holds 3 meetings per year (Currently in October, January and June). 

The Board has the following vacancies for elected posts:

  1. Faculty representative:  Each Faculty will have one elected member of academic staff. The proposed representative should fit the definition of teaching staff below and will be elected by teaching staff from within the Faculty.
  1. One elected member of academic staff with specific expertise in Research*  The proposed representative should fit the definition of teaching staff below and will be elected by teaching staff from across the University.
  1. One elected member of academic staff with specific expertise in HE Learning and Teaching* The proposed representative should fit the definition of teaching staff below and will be elected by teaching staff from across the University.
  1. One elected member of academic staff with specific expertise in Enterprise and Innovation* The proposed representative should fit the definition of teaching staff below and will be elected by teaching staff from across the University.
  1. One elected member of academic staff in the early stages of their academic career* (5 or less years in HE).  The proposed representative should fit the definition of teaching staff below and will be elected by teaching staff from across the University.

*Candidates in categories 2-5 above should provide a statement of 100 words or less providing a rationale on how they would represent the category selected.

The Board of Governors has defined “teaching staff” for the purposes of this election as all employees engaged on full-time or part-time academic staff contracts of at least 12 months duration, all Professors in Faculties, all post-doctoral research workers and research assistants engaged on contracts of at least 12 months duration.

Academic staff, including those employed at UoSiL and UoSiHK who meet the above definition are entitled to stand or vote in these elections.

Staff can only stand for one category.
